Project description
Are you a student eager to apply your theoretical knowledge and fresh perspectives to real-world challenges? At Saab, we believe that innovation thrives on new ideas, and your master thesis project could be the spark that ignites our next technological breakthrough. Your roleWe recognize the immense value that students bring to our company. Your academic rigor, combined with your enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology, allows you to approach problems with a unique and insightful lens. At Saab, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, gaining invaluable practical experience while making a tangible contribution to our growth and development. Background Gripen is an advanced, software-defined fighter aircraft that continues to evolve through changes and new capabilities. Overall Design is a unit within the Gripen organisation that provides technical leadership for changes affecting multiple parts of the system. The thesis project will use engineering change cases — examples of changes to functional chains, logical interfaces or information flows in the existing system. You will explore how modern systems modelling and AI-supported tools could help engineers understand and analyse these changes. In this master thesis project, you will cooperate with another student who focuses on aircraft-level systems modelling and engineering workflows. The projects address different questions but share selected engineering change cases and opportunities for collaboration.Description of the Thesis Project This thesis focuses on the IT solution supporting systems modelling. You will propose and compare a manageable number of reference IT architectures. These are high-level descriptions of how a future software tool and its supporting IT services could be structured. The alternatives will cover:• the front-end layer through which engineers interact with the tool• the back-end services used to store, access and analyse system-model informationThe IT architectures will be evaluated against selected engineering change cases. You will identify relevant aspects of the system-model information and engineering work that the IT solution should support. Examples may include traceability, consistency, dependencies and change impact, but other relevant aspects may also be identified. The evaluation will also consider whether engineers can easily find and use the right system-model information for the task at hand. Separately, the proposed IT components and overall IT solution will be assessed using relevant criteria such as security, maintainability, technical maturity and integration with other engineering tools. The expected result is a comparison of alternative reference IT architectures and a well-founded recommendation for the supporting IT solution. A complete prototype is not required. If time permits, concepts may be demonstrated using a small number of selected engineering change cases.Your profileYou are approaching the end of a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field, and are about to begin a 30 hp thesis project. An interest in IT architecture, AI, information modelling or system integration is beneficial. Previous aerospace or industrial experience is not required. You do not need knowledge of a particular systems-modelling language or expertise in both AI and systems modelling. Saab will provide an introduction, initial engineering change cases, representative system-model information and supporting material, access to specialists and regular supervision. We provide the support and guidance you need to translate your theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. Join us and become a driving force behind Saab's technological advancements! This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.Kindly observe that this is an ongoing recruitment process and that the position might be filled before the closing date of the advertisement.Contact informationAnders Axelsson, Systems Architectanders.axelsson@saabgroup.com What you will be a part ofExplore a wealth of possibilities.
